Many are not happy with the direction of our country so it is the season to take action. Every city/town council, school board, and special county district have elections this November and these seats are nonpartisan.

  • For School Boards and Special County Districts, contact San Mateo County Elections Office.

  • NOTE: In most cases you do not have to pay a filing fee or get nomination signatures.

Candidates requesting SMGOP endorsement for the 2024 Presidential Primary


The SMGOP approved the following rules for the 2024 Presidential Primary at the Jun 08 General Meeting.  If you desire to be considered for a SMGOP endorsement, please notify info@smgop.org and we will provide you with the application form.

GENERAL

SMGOP Bylaws Section 3.01.03 full committee addresses endorsements.  It allows the committee to adopt rules and procedures for consideration of endorsements.  The filing period closes Dec 08, 2023, the deadline to get partisan endorsements on the county voter information guide is Dec 13 and the Presidential Primary Election Offices that will be on the ballot in San Mateo County Primary are:

Partisan

Federal

  • President of the United States

  • U.S. Senator

  • U.S Congress, (Districts 15 & 16)

State

  • State Senator, (Districts 11 & 13)

  • State Assembly, (Districts 19, 21 23)

Nonpartisan

County Board of Supervisors

  • Districts (1, 4 & 5)


ENDORSEMENT RULES

  1. A full committee endorsement requires 2/3s of members present and voting.

  2. A choice of “No endorsement” will be included on all ballots. An abstention will reduce the denominator. “No endorsement” votes will not reduce the denominator.

  3. Full committee endorsements will only be done during general meetings; second Thursday of the month. There will not be a general meeting in December.

  4. Republicans whose jurisdictions include all or part of San Mateo County will be considered for endorsement.

  5. Except for the Office of President of the United States, only candidates that request endorsement and submit an endorsement application will be considered for endorsement. The application must be received 96 hours in advance of the general meeting to info@SMGOP.ORG .

  6. Endorsement applications will be distributed to the members with the meeting agenda, 72 hours prior to the general meeting.

  7. Candidates that request endorsement and submitted an endorsement application will be given up to five minutes to present and answer questions at a general meeting.

  8. For a candidate to receive an endorsement, only an SMGOP member present at the meeting may nominate a candidate that has qualified for endorsement per the conditions above. A second is not required.

  9. If there is only one candidate, the Chair can call for a voice vote by acclimation. If there is more than one candidate, votes will be taken until there is only one candidate. If more than one candidate, a secret ballot will be conducted.

  10. Except for Office of President of the United States, if there is only one Republican candidate in a contest and the full committee has not made an endorsement, the Chair may make the endorse per Section 3.01.01 of the SMGOP Bylaws.

  11. Per Section 3.01.03 (B), after the filing period is closed, the Committee may, in the absence of a Republican candidate, provide “better choice” candidate(s) with a two-thirds affirmative vote of members present and voting in nonpartisan contests.
